Before you pull your hair out, this is a fixable situation! The vagina is normally acid because it wants to keep away bad bacteria. Sometimes, the pH goes from being more acidic to less acidic. Then the bad bacteria (which come from our own bodies) creeps up inside the vagina and creates a discharge with an unpleasant odor. This is bacterial vaginosis (BV). With an antibiotic, it can be treated. But why does it keep happening? Well, because the vagina keeps going from being more acidic to less acidic. Body fluids like semen, saliva, and blood can cause this. So much for sex! Don’t worry, talk to your doctor and get on a treatment plan that works for you. I strongly encourage you to see a doctor if your symptoms persist. You may have more than just bacterial vaginosis going on. I’m not a big fan of home remedies because they only cover up the symptoms temporarily and some of them can do real harm. There are some new products that help with preventing BV by maintaining the acidic pH of the vagina. My favorite is Rephresh. Works well. What’s yours, and why?
